Pousio (Touriga Nacional)

Wine: Pousio

Region: Alentejano

Grape: Touriga Nacional

A fruity red wine from Southern Portugal. Like most wines from this area, these are easy to enjoy and are typically fruity. I had the opportunity to visit Portugal and of course this country is so renown for it’s Port (from Porto), that being able to explore a wide range of wines was something that was interesting due to the fact it’s a relatively new concept.

The region where this particular wine comes from is Alentejano and it is paving the way for how delicious a wine should be. This is due to the fact that the black fruits blend so well with the oak that it makes it a complex wine but with a nice aroma that blends the flavours nicely together. This makes it rich with a strong fruity taste which makes it smooth with a heavy body. Touriga Nacional is the grape that’s used to create this beautifully crafted wine which, (as stated earlier) really brings out the flavour of the black fruits.

Food: Beef, Veal, Poultry and Pasta

Because of the heavy body this compliments with the food paring of red meats such as beef because of the taste and texture. Despite this being a robust wine, it can also be paired with veal, poultry, and pasta. These are light white meats and the flavours of the fruit from the wine compliments this well.
