Montcalmès Grenache 2019

Wine: Montcalmès

Region: Hérault, France

Grapes: Grenache

A strong aroma of vanilla mixed with cherries. A bold wine with a terrific freshness to this wine.

Hérault is one of the major wine regions of France as it houses a variety of grapes such as Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Grenache and Carignan. Hérault is located on the Mediterranean coast line and boarders the Aude region of Southern France. When it is the growing season, the high temperatures are decreased by the refreshing sea breeze. This cools the grapes and slows down ripening.

Grenache is one of the most planted grapes, particularly around the Mediterranean. It is believed that Grenache originated in Spain and they call it Garnacha although Italy has challenged this.

In the Rhône Valley in France, it is often blended with Mourvèdre and Syrah. However it is best known for being one of the most used grapes in Châteauneuf-du-Pape as it’s seventy percent of the blend.
