Dorper Pinotage 2017
Wine: Dorper Pinotage 2017
Region: Stellenbosch, South Africa
Grapes: Pinotage
The nose has a really nice leather aroma to it. Combine this with the red cherries and the black cherries for taste, you’d almost think you’re drinking a Shiraz, not only because of how full-bodied it is but also of how smooth and fresh this wine is.
In South Africa, the Pinotage is their own grape making this very unique and for anyone wanting to explore various cultures and taste various wines.
The grape itself, has been scientifically created through the use of genetics. It is a cross of Pinot Noir and Cinsault which is also known as Hermitage. The grape was made for South Africa by scientist Abraham Perold in 1925. However New Zealand and Zimbabwe are large producers of Pinotage with South Africa being the largest.
The grapes are small and the skins are thick which create inky wines and give off bold flavours which means black fruits are very much at the full front when it comes to notes particularly blackberry, black currant and plum to name a few.
